Would these movies fall in the same line as actual theatrical movies? I mean I think of all those movies out there that were released straight to home video or dvd or made for tv movies. They don’t really have the same quality as theatrical movies such as special effects or major actors or the budget.

Hi! I've always watched a lot of movies and your answer for the majority is no, but I wouldn't dismiss them altogether. Some straight to TV movies aren't very good but serve a purpose - sappy, xmas movies for example - pointless but (sometimes) feel good. I like several mini-series (War of the Worlds, Day of the Triffids, Moll Flanders) and many others produced by Masterpiece Theater, PBS, BBC.
Also as a kid tv movies let me explore the world and people, real and imaginary.

And I forgot about the newer concept of the few episode/movie length tv series. I love Jack Taylor and Sherlock.

Original movies that are streamed are different than straight to dvd. They are more like theatrical movies.

A lot of netflix original films are films that otherwise would have been shown in theaters, blu ray out after a few months, now they are streamed weeks after a short stay in a select group of theaters.
