Changes in work due to covid

For those of us who were in work before the pandemic, I'm just interested to know if there's been any change in your work circumstances?

For example, I had to work from home for a few weeks (although back in the office now due to living in luckiest covid-busting location)

Mine should be same as before, but working from home. The work is the same as before.

Temporary paid leave for me, since my job can't be done from home. I was originally going to be going back to work this week, but since cases have spiked, it's been delayed yet another month. I still don't know if I'm going back full-time or reduced hours as we were originally told before the shutdown, but either way, I'll get paid full time. I'm also not worried about going back because I don't work with the general public, and I can do my job easily while social distancing, plus the majority of people will be working from home. The drawback to this is that I do miss the people at work, as I get to work with a great group of people. At least, I get to keep in contact with some from work on Facebook, but it's not the same.

That sounds OK. Are they giving you extra leave over your normal allowance?

Looks like most people are doing OK, nobody in the poll has lost their job.
Though with only a few responses, I guess we can't draw any conclusions.

Nothing has changed for me. I was working from home before Covid and have continued to do so during the pandemic.

Employment Insurance pay until I go back. Should have probably gone back already. Been very lazy and gaining a bit too much fat for my liking. Also should go back in order to preserve qualified weeks of EI for Winter should there be a second wave and I want to stay home and get paid through cold & flu season.

Paid leave for my first job.

Unpaid furlough for my second.

I start my first job July 6th.

Laid off due to covid and desperately searching.

It's normally draining searching for a job, but during covid the scammers have been coming out in droves.

I have very little energy to just hang on anymore.

I am trying desperately, but it's a terrible fight.

To make matters worse, I adored the job that laid me off....

You should have applied for a Census position. They’re still hiring, I believe. It’s not difficult work. I worked for the 1980, 2000, and 2010 Censuses, and will work for the 2020 Census.

I'm trying to stay in touch so that if the company recovers, they might hire me back.... it could be a long time, though.

I hadn't thought about the census, but we were already polled here, so I think I may have missed the window!

People have been “polled” everywhere.

Census Enumerators are people who seek to find those who didn’t fill out a questionnaire earlier.

I voted "same as before", but we were working remotely before. However, I was out of work when COVID started because I was in the hospital (Jan 4 - May 22). I didn't start back at work until early June (other than getting on some conference calls - I even did a couple of zoom calls from my hospital bed!), and by then, we were back in the office. I'm back in the hospital again (more stomach/respiratory issues), as of yesterday, and I will continue working remotely until I can't. Right or wrong, as a manager, I get more flexibility (salaried). Depending on how long I'm here, I may have to do STD again, but I could lose my job if I get a repeat of earlier in the year.

I am grateful to have a job; I have been forced to let two excellent workers go because of budget cuts; it is the worst thing about my job. One person moved from 300 miles away to work for us. Unfortunately, we did "last hired, first fired", because we didn't have any poor performers. I do not believe in stack-ranking. I won't comment about how this whole COVID thing is being handled. I have spent 140 days in the hospital in 2020 and none of it is because of COVID, but I can't see anyone, and people won't come see me because they're afraid. Scary times.

I work for Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools as a school data specialist in the Special Olympics North America Region. Work out of our headquarters in Washington, DC. The entire movement has everyone working from home. It was kind of hard at first to adapt to but I have adapted very well to it since I can go get some exercise before starting my work day three days a week. Most likely, I won't be going back into DC until the new calendar which fine with my supervisor.
