Earlier today, I was granted employment by my first employer!

I will be working part-time at a dollar store three blocks away from my house in the freight department, so as a "behind-the-scenes" employee. Training will begin soon.

My NT sister already knows and has given her approval.

Congratulations! It is best when Aspies don't have to interact directly with customers.

Thanks everyone! :)

My new boss says that training may take up to six weeks to complete and that a more experienced employee will work alongside me for a suitable period of time as fit after.

As for interacting with customers, my new boss also mentioned that more cashier positions usually open each year during the holiday season. TBH, I'd be okay with being a cashier alongside more seasoned employees.

However, a concern I have been thinking about is how my mom may react to this. She has anger issues, so what I am afraid of is that if I tell about finding myself my first employer, it may trigger a fit of rage in her to a possible point where she could make threats.

I will take this position and the earliest I will begin working is this September.

Any ideas on how to avoid awkward situations with my mom will be much appreciated.

Congrats again about your new job, AA. Why would your mother become enraged or threaten you, because of finding your first job? I know she's pretty unstable but I can't even fathom why this would conceivably upset her.

If she does become upset, just hold your ground. Explain that you are a 30 year old man, and work is a normal developmental stage. If she becomes abusive, call the police (whoops -- do you have police there?) and report her. I would even keep video or sound recordings if she does flip out. I know your sister will support you, as we all will on WP.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

^ You probably mentioned this before, Brother Anon, but your mom does not want you to have a job?

She does not want me nor my NT sister to have ourselves proper employment. :x

However, my NT sister is actively looking for proper employment for herself but carefully.

Our mom left the field of public education in the Summer of 2019 after 24 years.

I am so happy for you Brother Anonymous. That is great news.

I hope your mom does not go into a rage. If she does, then I hope you can tough it out. You have the right to be employed.
