Australian dating show "Love on the Spectrum" to Netflix
I have to say, I was putting off watching it because I was worried it'd be problematic based on some buzz from a few folks on twitter but I finally got around to watching it and it is great. Not sure how anyone can criticize it much. My only issue was they all dated other autistics ajnd I'm worried about the message that sends but if you listen closely, the director asks the subjects "would you prefer another autistic or an NT" and every one of them seems to say yes and I'm sure they'll find some neurologically mixed couples for season 2
Also it seems like the kind of show where NTs relate with the things the autistics are going through (everyone's been on an awkward date, a good date, a date where they thought it went well but the other person didn't think so, etc) more than seeing them as "others" who are weird.

Bleh seconded. I harbor legitimate concerns about being associated with TV archetypes.

There is a British version of this series (I think it was called "undateables"?) and there was a mix of people with disabilities but included a lot of Aspies.

Let the record show, whether I'm 'dateable' or not, I still give a damn about people.

“People were drawn to my blunt sense of humour, my dapper style and my hilarious one liners, even though I’m not trying to be funny,” says Michael, who has enjoyed his unexpected celebrity.
“It was flattering. When I was growing up, I felt ignored and overlooked, so this was definitely different. The fact that my fan base is now global, I feel like people are wanting to pay attention to me now.”
Rodgers is not concerned about the effect of fame on the participants.
“Autistic people are making their own choices. I’m not worried about them. These people are in their 20s … They’re all over social media and reality TV.”
In her daily practice, Rodgers is a counsellor and sexologist for people with autism and intellectual disabilities. She champions their right to form intimate relationships. Due to her increased profile, her stance has attracted the ire of some members of the online autistic community, who accuse her of pushing “ableist porn”.
“Relationships are essential to life and people with autism are no different,” she says. “We’ve all got difficulties when it comes to dating. Diagnostically, autistic people have differences in the ways that they socially interact, therefore they have to go over a hurdle where they need to understand the nuance of social interaction.”
The new season, which includes other returnees, dinosaur enthusiast Mark, and engaged couple Jimmy and Sharnae as well as new faces, sees some of the participants date neurotypical singles. In the first episode, Michael attends a mainstream speed-dating night.
He believes people with autism “shouldn’t be treated differently to neurotypical people. Autism is a gift, not something to be ashamed of.”
Love on the Spectrum returns Tuesday, May 18 at 8.30pm on the ABC

Love On The Spectrum Star Michael Has Launched His Own Podcast
The Aussie bloke appeared on both seasons of the reality TV dating show that is designed to teach people who are on the autism spectrum how to find love.
Michael said about the project: "Rules for the podcast include: no controversial topics such as politics, religion, past wars, weaponry and drugs. And most importantly it has a strict no Covid talk policy."
In the podcast, he's promised to chat about life, relationships, dating and even Thomas the Tank Engine.
He's already released two episodes and it's going down a treat with audiences.
Topically the opposite of WP which is a good thing. The more diverse autistic spaces the better.
