I was riding in a car driving passed a gun store recently. The parking lot was full. Why? Why are people so crazy about guns?

It's a right wing thing. I wish I knew too.

I don't... Get it.

And I'm very sure it's not the same way as to why are people are so crazy about karaoke.

Some people are into sports. Some people are into cars. Some people are into guns. Even from a non-utilitarian perspective (like hunting), there's plenty to be fascinated by; history, engineering etc. Though from how 2020 has been going so far, I expect that the parking lot was full because some people are reconsidering their previous stance on the right to be able to defend themselves.

No, it isn't. Most of the people I know are center to left and they all have at least one firearm. Just in case. It's an American thing.

There is a difference between being crazy about guns and just owning a gun.

There's a difference between being crazy about cars and owning a car. Doesn't mean everyone who is legit crazy about cars are also crazy about vehicular homicide.

Because that's one weird but deep-running part of American culture.

More seriously: why are so few people "crazy" about peace and kindness?

I don't get upset when people talk about better public transportation, say there needs to be stricter laws about what it requires to get a driver's license. I don't feel threatened by that at all as a driver.

But for gun nutters, they act like people are trying to take away their gun rights when people talk about stricter gun laws, gun control.

Nice try.

I assume that was directed at me, you kind of replied to yourself, there.

That's because the people making the laws regarding driving and traffic tend to understand driving and traffic. The people making laws around guns haven't the faintest clue about guns. I expect you'd protest if someone wanted to make it illegal to sell cars that can go faster than 30 mph, can contain more than 2 gallons of gas in the tank and insisted that automatic transmission is something only professional drivers need. Oh, and anytime a car was used in a crime, it would be made illegal and confiscated from people owning that same model of car.

It has to do partly with their ego and partly because a significant percentage feel like god when they hold a gun though their ability to hit anything other than their foot might be a bigger problem.

I see this as a bit like a teenager and their first car; they think they can drive and proceed to crash when trying to do something stupid.

So to clarify, are we are talking specifically about American gun owners?
