More than six years after the death of Tammy Jo Blanton was murdered in a gruesome manor,Joseph Oberhansley has been found guilty of killing her and consuming the body parts.
Oberhansley's verdict was announced after six days of testimony in Clark county, IN circuit court,he was found guilty of murder and burlary but not guilty of rape,he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
He was found at Blanton's home on sept. 11 2014 with her dismembered body in a bath tub,they also found a skillet,bloody tongs and a plate with a skull and bones on it.
He admitted killing Blanton ,his ex, in a police interview but later took back the confession.
IN the trial Oberhansley claimed to men intruders killed Blanton and didn't know who eat the remains though.
Oberhansley was supposed to claim insanity but later rejected his lawyers insanity claims and a mis trial was declared and he was given an evaluation and found incompetent to stand trial in 2017,then in 2018 the Indiana Mental health dept. then cleared him as competent for trial.
Testimony this week from more than a dozen witnesses kept circling around the event of september of 2014.
At one point Blanton had called police saying Oberhansley was breaking into her appartment,the police came and Oberhansley left without incident.
The next day co-worker concerned that Blanton didn't show up for work called police,police then found Blanton dead and Oberhansley with cuts and blood on him.
The trial started on september 11th 2020 6 years to the day of the murder.
