As a young boy I always took that phrase to mean 'just go punch him in the mouth' when the person probably meant 'oh, just accept that you're a weirdo who will be bullied'.

Hey, I thought I was just a boy being a boy, just like you all expected.

When I was a kid, I saw this being used as boys will be loud and rough and obnoxious and they will be aggressive. Even a mom used this for her son who would be mean to me because I was a girl.

Yep, "boys will be boys" is infuriating to me. Recently I've heard "to be a Good man, rather than a 'Real' man" to counteract similar trains of thought. It's still gendered, but it's a start.

Actually, yes, I think that's the same for me where it comes to being made fun of and deliberately excluded.

Men mostly just ignore me because I'm not on their radar.

can recognize the above observations for myself. Except , ithink the manner in which i use the english language . Sometimes puts people off. Tend to use large words to describe what i am saying
in common language. So my small talk is very limited , if i can manage any .
