Hi, I'm Mike from the Houston Texas area. On Wednesday of this week, I was diagnosed as a High Functioning ASD, or otherwise known as an Aspie. I am 52 years old and this has finally started to explain things about myself that I had always wondered. Since I was a teen, I always just considered myself very shy, and nothing more than that. I have been a shy, quiet person all my life and just thought "that's how I am". I have found that I'd much rather spend time alone reading about ancient Roman history or playing my bass guitar than going to a party and trying to talk to other people. I'm very glad that I've found this site and hope that I can navigate my life through this new and unexpected diagnosis.

Welcome, Mike. Your story reads a lot like mine, except for the bass guitar part. I was diagnosed late in life as well, and it helped make sense of everything that lead up to the diagnosis. Hope you find your time her helpful and enjoyable.

There are some WP members who are from Texas who could help you fit in.

I was diagnosed when I was 13 and when I was told that I had AS, I had no idea
what my specialist was talking about.

welcome, I had late diagnosis too! Puts everything from the past in a whole new light and its a lot to sort out. Almost 3 years from when I first suspected my autism and began trying to learn about it, a lot makes more sense. Huge relief to figure out my past struggles and traumas were not "all my fault". glad you are with us.
