Sigh. I can't resist. Sorry.
Mountain Goat is, I think, correct with his characterization of High Functioning Autism. More detailed information can be found in this Healthline article: "High-Functioning Autism".
The U.S. uses DSM-5, the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). In 2013 the DSM added "Autism Spectrum Disorder" to encompass classical Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, and some other things. You can read more about this in this Healthline article: "What’s the Difference Between Asperger’s and Autism?".
Note, however, that the DSM is published by the American Psychiatric Association. Because of DSM-5 "Asperger's Syndrome" is no longer an official diagnosis in the U.S. (though it is still sometimes used informally and for anyone diagnosed before 2013); many other countries do not use the APA DSM and still have an official Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis. I've discovered that this can cause some confusion in discussions on WP. In countries which do not use DSM Asperger's Syndrome and Autism are separate and different; in the U.S., and any other country that uses DSM, the Autism Spectrum includes what is elsewhere called Asperger's Syndrome.
P.S. I worked in computers, not in anything related to medicine or psychology. But I was diagnosed as being ASD-1 in 2019 and the psychologist also noted that I displayed many of the qualities of what was "previously known as Asperger's Syndrome". That's likely why I dumped all of the information above. Thank you for your patience and I hope at least some of it interested you. And welcome, again, to WP!
