Confederate flag tied to door of Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City
An aggravated harassment complaint has been filed, but no arrests have been made, police added.
Apparently, the vandal never heard of Judah Benjiman
He soon moved to Richmond after Confederate President Jefferson Davis appointed him as Attorney General. Benjamin had little to do in that position, but Davis was impressed by his competence and appointed him as Secretary of War. Benjamin firmly supported Davis, and the President reciprocated the loyalty by promoting him to Secretary of State in March 1862, while Benjamin was being criticized for the rebel defeat at the Battle of Roanoke Island.
As Secretary of State, Benjamin attempted to gain official recognition for the Confederacy by France and the United Kingdom, but his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. To preserve the Confederacy as military defeats made its situation increasingly desperate, he advocated freeing and arming the slaves late in the war, but his proposals were only partially accepted in the closing month of the war. When Davis fled the Confederate capital of Richmond in early 1865, Benjamin went with him. He left the presidential party and was successful in escaping from the mainland United States, but Davis was captured by Union troops. Benjamin sailed to Great Britain, where he settled and became a barrister, again rising to the top of his profession before retiring in 1883. He died in Paris the following year.
Nor David Levy Yulee
Yulee's inflammatory pro-slavery rhetoric in the Senate earned him the nickname "Florida Fire-Eater". Although he frequently denied that he favored secession, Yulee and his colleague, Senator Stephen Mallory, jointly requested from the War Department a statement of munitions and equipment in Florida forts on January 2, 1860. He wrote to a friend in the state, "the immediately important thing to be done is the occupation of the forts and arsenals in Florida."
During the Civil War, Yulee did not seek any elective or appointive office. There is some dispute as to his wartime legislative service as some sources state that he served in the Confederate Congress and others do not. After the war, Yulee was imprisoned in Fort Pulaski for nine months for treason, specifically for aiding in the 1865 escape of Jefferson Davis.
Both the town of Yulee, Florida and Levy County, Florida are named for him.
The town of Fernandina Beach, Florida has a statue of Yulee.
In 2000, the Florida Department of State designated Yulee as a Great Floridian in the Great Floridians 2000 Program. Award plaques in his honor were installed at both the Fernandina Chamber of Commerce and the Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins State Historic Site.
The World War II Liberty Ship SS David L. Yulee was named in his honor.

So is anyone still in denial that it's primarily used as a white supremacist symbol?

Its like sticking an Italian flag onto a Museum of North American Eskimo culture. Its a nonsequitar.
Italy is not associated with Eskimos, nor is it associated with any oppression of Eskimos. Just like the Confederate Battle flag is not associated with either Jews, or with Gentile antisemitism. Its not clear what the vandal's message was. Was he trying to disrespect Jews? Or was he trying to recruit Jews to his side? Why cant hoodilums be more articulate?

The origins of the Confederate Flag were not anti-Semitic but it is associated with white supremacism now. IMHO he was trolling Jews or sending a message to Jews that we are coming for you.

I think the point is to make it clear what the message was. If it was about racial supremacy, why not use a swastika instead of an ambiguous symbol?
The symbols are fairly interchangeable and most jewish know that if there's confederate flags at a rally then swastikas or white hoods aren't far away.
In my experience, neo nazi's use strategies such as the use of misinformation and disinformation to divert the blame to others (ideally the people who they hate the most) when caught of committing any crime.
Their behaviour is not unsimilar to the school bully, who when caught picking on someone, will lie through his teeth and blame his own victim of the crime that he commits, and some times will get away with such offenses, especially if he has a "pack of wolves" to back up his lie with their false testimony.
The nazi philosophy of lying is seductively sold to the neo nazi fellowship through romanticize ancient aspects of mythology (such as Norse mythology that they draw influence from), and that their actions of lying isn't wrong, but extremely clever and cunning and makes them powerful warlocks following a pseudo ancient religion which for the most part has been invented by the nazi propagandist and spin doctors.
In the nazi's eyes, he/she is not lying but instead are acting out their role as powerful norse warlock casting a magic spell to change reality. Once cast, the warlock will then continue to adamantly proclaim their lies are the truth, and again, if done in greater enough numbers, will become common knowledge rather than what really happened in terms of objective truth.
I think the point is to make it clear what the message was. If it was about racial supremacy, why not use a swastika instead of an ambiguous symbol?
??? What exactly is ambiguous about the Confederate flag?
Well, you can't tell if it's upside down or not...
That's just about it.

If it were a Black Heritage museum the meaning would be obvious.
But since it was on a Jewish themed museum the meaning is ambiguous.

What's ambiguous about a white supremacist symbol tied to the door? It's not really all that ambiguous, I'm sure the people who it was left for interpreted it as intended.

Are you trying to suggest there is no history of antisemitism in the Confederate south or in the US white supremist movement?
Antisemitism in the antebellum american south was no worse than the antisemitism of the antebellum northern US, and that of both sections was probably less than the antisemitism of any country in Europe in the 19th Century.
So if you take the confederate flag as being just that...representing the south, or the confederacy, then it makes no sense to stick it on a Jewish museum.
However, burning a cross on the front lawn of a synagogue does have meaning, because the KKK was antisemitic, anti White immigrant, and anti Catholic, as well as being anti Black.
You could equate a confederate flag with a cross burning. But folks who wave the Confederate flag today claim it represents "heritage not hate". So...if you are a hoodlum who sticks flags onto properties you gotta make up your mind....which IS it...heritage, or hate? Ya cant have it both ways. So if it's heritage, then ...use the stars and bars for Black properties, and use the swastika for Jewish properties.
I mean...the literacy level of hoodlums and vandals these days just isnt what it used to be!
