I agree.

Always made me wonder as a teenager & I learnt Clinton had been impeached what that actually means.

I thought it meant removed from office? But then someone couldn't have it happen twice cos he wouldn't still be there?

Impeached means Trump is accused.

Since he is accused, he will have a trial with the Senate as the Judge.

Didn't Chief Justice Roberts proside over the first one?

Better to say that the Senate is the jury...true that.

I guess if the senate passes a majority vote of guilty, then Roberts passes sentence?

Two thirds of the Senate (who vote) must vote Guilty.

I believe Roberts would pass sentence—though he doesn’t have any discretion.

In order to ban Trump from office for life, a simple majority of the Senate must vote for this in a separate vote.

I feel that Roberts might be more of a moderator than a judge. The Senate as jury has a bit more power than a regular jury.

He seems too nice. I'd like to see someone more meanacing say "Donald J Trump, I find you GUILTYYY!"

Roberts is a fair and impartial conservative.

If we are really lucky, the impeachment will be the start of a failing brand and more and more people will file on and trample him down permanently.

The higher they go, the harder they fall.

The impeachment and conviction thereof doesn’t mean that much, in essence. If we’re lucky, the punishment will be banishment from Public office for life, and a permanent stain upon his reputation.

The indictments and convictions for state and federal felonies will mean a lot more. These have a lot more “bite.”

He cannot pardon himself from a state conviction.

This impeachment was purely political theater. Trump said nothing to incite a riot or violence of any kind.

Technically he didn't, but why did the Capitol riot take place?

The impeachment process is a done deal, and there is nothing you can do to change the outcome.  Live with it.

Well, of course. I do not question the fact of the impeachment but I do question the validity of the impeachment.

At this point, Trump likely has bigger problems than impeachment.

Trump will face a large - perhaps devastating - financial fallout due to the business boycott over the 6 January Capital Putsch regardless of whether the Senate convicts him or not. And his legal troubles at the State level will manifest themselves once he leaves office irrespective of impeachment.

Quite a few legal scholars also believe - based on Nixon era interpretation and certain passages in the Federalist Papers and - that Trump cannot pardon himself, in which case he will also have to deal with possible Federal charges.

It is of course extremely shameful for a president to be impeached twice... but since Trump has no shame, this is probably not his primary concern.

But the impeachment process is a massive challenge for the Republicans, whose deep internal divisions are now being put on display on primetime TV and risk tearing the party apart.
