I am a suspected ND awaiting assessment and came across this website in Temple Grandin's book: The Autistic Brain. Since my suspicious about being ND awoke I have devoured several books on ASD and would love some recommendations!

I am extraverted, Australian, female and a big nerd. It has always been my dream to become an eccentric old lady - in this endeavour, I am well on my way to success as I have recently adopted 2 cats.

Special interests: video games, (Star Wars, Star Trek, LoTR), dragons, international politics + business studies, fantasy literature, ASD, animals, general trivia.

Looking forward to spending time on this forum - hope to learn a lot! :D

Hi and a very warm welcome to you from a fellow Aussie :) . I have a library on AS here, having gone through the same process it sounds like you're going through. We do tend to research things we're interested in, to the hilt. I also made a career out of it. I have 2 cats as well, and a dog. I"m from Queensland but have lived all over, and am now in England. What State are you from(if you don't mind sharing?)

hello AspieringDragon
pleased to meet you.

well, being a bit of a nerd certainly wont be a problem on this forum.
I would say that star trek, star wars and sci fi are quiet common interests among Aspie's.

As well as computer games. Due to the average aspie often spending a lot of time on their own.
In fact, I would say that gaming is very common among a lot of people in modern society
now that we are all most isolation orientation.

nonetheless, I am also a big fan of Star Wars / Star Trek and their associated console games and off shoot series.
Mandalorian, Pichard etc.

anyway
welcome again

Welcome, me china plate.
I'm from Sydney, the state of the cockroaches, so I speak your language.

Don't be scared.
The inhabitants are harmless, here.
Well mostly. ;)

When I saw your name/handle, I guessed you were pink, rather than blue, btw. ;)

Welcome, fellow fantasy and video game lover!
I recommend NeuroTribes by Steve Silberman for an extensive history of the condition that fascinating to read. And also Explaining Humans by Dr Camilla Pang.

welcome! I used Tony Attwood's revised book about autism and looked at it remembering what my childhood had been like ( in the olden days years and years ago for me). It really helped me spot some of my autism I had hidden for so long as an adult. I also used Cynthia Kim's book "I think I might be autistic". It helps understand how women are often missed in diagnosis. (our autism "looks" different than the current diagnosis description (DSM) that professionals refer to). I like to look at the "actually autistic " blogs and follow several of them too. There are many pages on social sites which are autism specific. It took me a while to find a good fit, but there are more out there all the time.
Theresa Reagan is an NT mother who has established a clinic in Illinois based especially on adult autism and finding adult diagnosis. Her waiting list was up to 2 years long when I applied for an appointment. She has 2 good very basic books meant to explain adult autism. Amazon's offerings have at least doubles just in the past 3 years I have been looking for info on autism. Best wishes!
