Massive police response after reports of active shooter at Boulder, Colorado, grocery store

Quote:
Police in Colorado responded Monday afternoon to reports of an active shooter at a grocery store in south Boulder.
The Boulder police tweeted there is an "Active Shooter at the King Soopers on Table Mesa. AVOID THE AREA."
CNN affiliate KMGH's helicopter recorded a shirtless man being taken from the supermarket. The man has what appears to be blood on his arm and right leg and his hands appeared to be cuffed behind him as two officers escorted him away. The man was taken away in an ambulance.

It was unclear whether the man was involved in the reported active shooting inside the store.

Ambulances and multiple law enforcement agencies are currently outside the store.

The supermarket is part of a large shopping center with a two-story strip mall next door.

I was hoping you were not involved.  Stay safe.

Yep al good for me though basically only because I was too lazy to grab lunch across the street today. I probably would have headed there if I went out the door to my friend's place much earlier.

Nevermind I've gone to that King Soopers for something like fifteen years. Yow... That was an ugly news stream.

Oh My Goodness!! I'm so glad you're safe!! !! !

Now I'm paranoid about the unusually long line of sirens that is currently going past my window :(

Edit: Never mind. Just discovered that apparently my town fire department tweets when there are fires and there's one just down the street right now.

Look man, I was a scout. I know gun safety, basic specifications, shooting, you name it. I'll shoot a coke bottle for fun but I don't have to like guns because the country is obsessed.

You know where you can take your s**t attitude today.

Good to hear that you are safe CBerg. I think you will have a traffic mess to deal with though, as the police are searching for a possible second gunman from the news reports I have seen.

At least it's looking like they're about to start a press conference.

Multiple people and one officer killed in grocery store shooting, official says

Quote:
Boulder Police Department Commander Kerry Yamaguchi said "multiple people" were killed in a shooting at King Soopers, including one Boulder police officer.

"We had a very tragic incident today here at the King Soopers," he said at a news conference on Monday. "During this trying time, I would ask the media and the public to honor the privacy of the officer's family and his coworkers here at the police department."

He said the quick response from law enforcement from around the area saved lives.

I am very glad you were lazy today.

I'm glad you're OK, cberg.

I don't want to read or know about this story because it sounds too awful. I just hope the perp was caught.

Apparently, a man was taken in custody who had no shirt and no pants on, just his underclothing and shoes.

Gunman kills 10, including police officer, at King Soopers

Quote:
A gunman killed 10 people at a King Soopers in Boulder on Monday afternoon, the latest in a grim litany of mass shootings in Colorado — this one including among its victims a police officer who was first to respond to reports of shots fired at the grocery store.

The suspect was taken into custody, but there were few answers in the following hours. Officials said it would take days to investigate the large crime scene and to notify families that their loved ones had been killed.

The workers and shoppers who survived the violent scene in the Front Range college town fled the store any way they could — if they couldn’t, they took shelter inside — as the shots echoed.

“It seemed like all of us had imagined we’d be in a situation like this at some point in our lives,” 57-year-old James Bentz said.

Boulder police Chief Maris Herold identified the deceased officer at a news conference Monday night as 51-year-old Eric Talley, who had been with the department since 2010 and was first on the scene of the shooting.

The suspect, a man, was in custody and being treated for injuries, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said, but he was not identified nor any motive ventured as of Monday night. The FBI is helping investigate at the request of Boulder police.

The shooting started sometime after 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the store at 3600 Table Mesa Drive. A livestream video, taken by local videographer Dean Schiller, who had just walked out of the store, showed what appeared to be victims and a man wearing a King Soopers employee uniform saying the shooter was inside the store.

Then what sounded like two gunshots could be heard over the video.

Two roommates who were buying pizza at the self-checkout watched the shooter come into the store. “He just came in and started shooting” without saying a word, one of them told The Denver Post on condition of anonymity to avoid national media attention. His roommate said the gunman “let off a couple of shots, then was silent, and then he let off a couple more. He wasn’t spraying.”

About an hour into the livestream, a bearded, balding man was taken out of the store by police in handcuffs, wearing no shirt and no shoes, just a pair of black elastic-waist shorts and his right leg bloodied. It wasn’t known as of Monday night if this was the shooter.
