Well apparently now there is a new strain of covid that the new vaccine will not work now against the new strain. Is this true? If it is, do people still actually believe we can beat covid, instead of just accepting it. We produce a max vaccine and covid manages to one up us in no time. Do people still think they have a chance, rather than accepting it as normal, like the flu?

There are several variants.

mRNA vaccine makers are working on modifying their vaccines to be more effective against them. They may be able to improve existing vaccines so that they work. They may come up with additional booster shots against the various variants as well.

Also, I think it's Pfizer, is working on a treatment for Covid that they're getting close to perfecting. It comes in both an injection & oral form, and works by blocking an enzyme required for the virus to replicate - and apparently it works against all the variants in their tests since they all require the enzyme to make copies of themselves. They say it should be ready to go by the end of the year.. so, if people do get covid, they can get a shot or take a pill to stop it in it's tracks.

Oh really? It would be impressive if they made a multcovid vaccine rolled into one. So how come the government hasn't done this with the flu for example, or was that passionate about wanting to be rid of that compared to covid?

We seem to be going round in circles here.

The yearly flu vaccines already target multiple flu types and are adjusted to target those most prevalent at the time.
It's likely that a Covid vaccine(s), in some form, will be incorporated in time into the yearly flu vaccinations.
I'm sure these points were made earlier in the thread, at least once.

I don't know where you get the idea that Covid can't be beaten when success stories are widely reported.
Yes, there are problem areas, and some are problematic due to ignorance of/wilfully ignoring the science - but the overall success trend is very clear.

Oh okay, it's just that since we are still in lockdown overall, it the success stories just seem like small potatoes that will not have much of an effect overall, or so it seems from my point of view.

Well we are still in lockdown, so if the successes stories are such as a success, they are not being seen that way by the government so far much.

They might all be rolled into one in a couple years' time if there are a few variants that people need to be vaccinated against. But it takes time to develop them all. New variants are still mutating and evolving.. how can doctors & research scientists be expected to have their vaccine products all created and ready to go Now when it's all an evolving work in progress as things continue to happen??

..because the flu isn't nearly as deadly. It's also not a new thing that people have no immunity to.

You're in lockdown because you live with a bunch of morons in your region who didn't take things seriously in the beginning so cases are up to the levels they are. IIRC, you're in Ontario somewhere.. Ontario/Quebec decided early on that they didn't have to do the things science told us to do, and now they have worse problems. Quite the shit-show in tough guy anti-science Alberta, too.

If people had all behaved super well we'd be over this s**t by now like New Zealand, but people are stupid jerks so here we are still with lockdowns and restrictions here in BC, too.

Anyways, major success stories in ~covid free areas like NZ or countries that have dramatically reduced their new cases & death rates like the USA are very real, but also irrelevant to what locals are doing where you live. New Zealand's success doesn't mean everything is ready to open up where you are - it's entirely dependant on locals' behaviour and what the case rates are where You live. If things are still bad or worse, restrictions will remain. Once things are good, restrictions can be lifted. Pretty simple stuff.
