Hi there,
I`m looking for a forum with other grown up aspie women. I am 52 and found out about being an aspie last year. I have been grieving ever since, realizing this isn't something that will go away. Now as some time has passed by, I'm trying to find out where this takes me from here. I hope to hear from other aspie women, who I can relate to - because this is a pretty solitude world to be in.
Besides, I am a working woman, have a husband, two children - and two dogs, as there stops all the "normality". It's been a struggle to be "different" and an outsider for as long as I can remember, it still is, at least now I know why -it hasn't changed much yet, other than understanding a WHOLE lot more of stuff in the past (and in the everyday life).

Thanks for reading so far - I don't know what kind of smilie that might fit in now, so I'll skip that - just making sure I don't come out all rude from the very start.

All the best,
Henriette - who lives in Norway

Welcome. Feel free to share any parenting tips that you may have learned even if by trial and error!

Thank you! I would like to share, it's been and often still is a challenge - they seem to manage ok in life, in spite of me being me, and maybe also due to me being me...

I drive myself mad studying and researching child development and NT parental strategies, but ultimately exhausted of putting on the mommy mask that is to be expected. Most of the time, I simply don’t understand why they get so upset about silly things like wanting me to buy goggles when it is clearly out of my control that the location does not have goggles.

Hi -
I am impressed about anyone who gets to different kinds of studying to become a better parent, for me that has just never been an option - I learn while doing and that's what my children have to take, I guess. My biggest worry when it comes to parenting used to be the mothers-socialising-together thing, all the small-talk and so that makes a foundation for the kids to socialize as well. Happily I found out that children tend to find their own way of fixing these things, they found friends - I just had to make sure our home was always open to all kind of little visitors. It was a nightmare when the mums wanted to come along as well, to socialize and chat if course, but as they learned there wasn't much to get from me that soon ended (story of my life.) Again, fortunately my children had their own ways being NT - I just had to make sure I followed their steps...

About the goggles I'm afraid I didn't quite reprehend, maybe I took it too literally - (I know I totally tend to)..?

Best,
Henriette

I research as a survival mechanism for most of my life. Study, study, apply while analyzing this issue. Want to connect with the kids more. And, yes, it is a bit tough dealing with other moms. I don’t really conform to dressing stereotypes. I still skateboard. I think the parents find it a bit silly, but I have a good support system so I am lucky. I just don’t understand their mindless chit chat. As for the goggles, yes, that was a literal situation. My 7 year old son cried for 30 minutes over goggles not existing, I was very confused!

I love my kids so I try my best to enjoy life with them as much as possible. Even when life is feeling a bit overwhelming.
