Okay. So, why is that not every anime anthology film can be directed by Otomo?

What do you mean? Why no non-anime directors are directing anime anthologies?

No, actually. Why is there some directors who don't direct anime direct segments of films like these?

as interns, sure, maybe as junior animators, colorist, assistant producer or some entry level position, but certainly not a first time director. - You can become an indie director and make your own stuff for a while, so you have something to show for yourself, but Japan is a bit specific, in that it's traditionally very, very hierarchical and the Anime industry is no exception. I have on friend in Tokyo, and she's an indie animator who couldn't get a job in the anime industry if she wanted to. Not because she doesn't have the skills to direct - she's won all sorts of awards for her own work - but she hasn't gone through the machinery, so she doesn't know the process in and out.

Okay. I also meant they hire them and those who don't direct anime to do these kind of films?

Do you mean, whether there's segments of anime anthologies which have been directed by people who haven't been directors before?
That certainly happens, if for example a key animator wants to try his hand at directing, and he's a skilled animator with enough experience, he might get picked to direct a segment of an anthology.

English is not my first language and I'm struggling to parse this sentence - in light of our previous dialogue, I'm out of guesses regarding who and what you're talking about and you need to elaborate a bit more for me.

What about " those" - who exactly?
I've talked about people from outside the anime industry and about people within the anime industry before.
I'm not sure who's left.

never "done" one before? - what do you mean by "done"? Animated? Directed? Produced? Written?

I meant one who never had the chance to direct one previously.

If the person is deemed capable somehow. If the person hasn't directed anime before, it helps if he or she has been working in the industry. If not, it's probably significantly harder

So, for these kind of films. What is the difference between a director who never directed anime and a newcomer who wants to direct a segment?
