Yeah, but they're increasingly rare.

When I worked in a car factory there were pay phones in weird places.

Not sure if I've ever seen a phone booth, but I've definitely seen lots of these in my life:

If there were any still around though, they've probably been removed during the pandemic. It was mandatory for phone companies to keep a few of them around for emergencies, but it's been a long time that most of them were always broken and just never got fixed because no one cared anyway.

I have read that the reasons that phone booths were done away with is because people in wheelchairs couldn't enter them.

They are painted red here in the UK and they are still in use in some rural areas of Wales, usually in villages where there is not internet and no mobile phone signal.
Some red phoneboxes now have defribulators fitted instead where the phones have been taken out, as they are ideal places to keep them. They repaint the phone boxes in yellow, and they have keypad locks, where when an emergency call comes, the ones who are trained to use them are given the codes to open them.

So yes. There are quite a few phone boxes (As we call them here in the UK) around with payphones in them in rural areas, though they are all the modern push button ones, and yes, they still eat ones money up rather fast!

I've seen and used a few phone booths in my childhood.

Yes. In the village I first move to Bristol to had the traditional red one. The city itself has more traditional ones and we even have a tardis one. Banksy also incorporated one into one of his works of art.

You all are making me feel old as Mathesula.

Grew up using pay phones, and phone booths.

I googled "phone booths near me" a couple of years ago once just out of curiosity. Learned that they still exist. But I havent actually seen a payphone, nor phone booth in years.

Yes, I grew up in the 90s, and they were everywhere in downtown areas.

I grew up in Long Beach, California, and there were even like London/British/English red telephone booths around too, and I used to do room service at the Queen Mary Hotel and there are a lot of red phone booths (or were, I don't know if they got rid of them or not, I hope not) in the area where the ship is. So yeah.

I'm used to seeing those, but blue. Same font and everything.

When I was growing up there were payphones all over the place. But none of them were in phone booths. I've never seen a phone booth.

Yes, have seen them, have used them even as an adult, and have looked up phone numbers and addresses in the large address book that used to be in each one.

So, yes this topic makes me feel old too. :D

I've seen old ones no longer in use, but I don't think I've seen usable ones other than in TV. Then again, I come from the countryside. They might still have been a thing during my time in the cities. Payphones on the other hand were still used in the local hospital when I was a kid, though.

Yep, growing up in the 1960s and 70s was a time of plenty for phone booths.
And on the red and blue US style booths with large phone book inside, yep, those.
Can even still kinda hear the sound the door made as it moved, and, the odd, muffled, sound you heard your own voice have when inside the booth.

I've only seen payphones. Not phone booths though.

For some reason, it still exists in certain public places like malls.
Yet many of those payphones are no longer functional.
