The quiz:

https://8values.github.io

----

I was going to say I encourage everyone to put their results in "spoil" tags for drum-roll effect, but there's no simple way to link your results in image format anyway. Bummer.

https://8values.github.io/results.html? ... 6.6&s=86.3

To post your results, just copy the URL you get at the end.

I'm curious to see if this one works at all. Apparently the ubiquitous "political compass" places almost everyone in the "left-leaning" quadrant.

Very obnoxious format. Every other site on Earth seems able to create images that aren't thousands of characters long.

Not sure its the most accurate label. Most seem to be more socially conservative than you are.

That really is some long URL!

The image is embedded in the URL. They're probably trying to avoid hosting fees (especially if the thing goes viral).

I'm very apolitical apart from "live and let live". I didn't even know what most of the questions meant, so I chose "Undecided" for nearly everything. I don't even recall seeing any questions about religion so it seems rather presumptuous at best.

That's what I imagined when I saw your results. Seems to be more like a reflection of the fact that you don't keep up with current trends and controversies. I guess this highlights that these types of quizzes totally fail to capture the difference between "having a middle-ground opinion" and "not having an opinion". (And maybe that's a reflection of the public debate in general when it comes to political positions.)

Another thing I find odd is that I'm generally not in favor of radical action or disruptive policies, and I mostly vote for social-democratic candidates, but I consistently get categorized as something extreme by these quizzes (this one tells me I'm a "libertarian socialist"). Am I too idiosyncratic, are these quizzes just bad at comparing political positions, or is there something else going on?

^

I keep thinking that there must be some better way to tell personal ideals apart from actual political positions. I mean, is a Marxist utopia a good thing? Well, sure! Is a dictatorship going to help anyone get there? Um... no?.. Are you crazy?!

Agreeing on what the problems are and what the ideal state of affairs would be is one thing, agreeing on solutions to those agreed problems is something entirely different. Actual politics is (or should be) about the "solution" side of it first and foremost. That rarely seems to be a consideration in political debate overall.

Lol, so you've noticed that about me? :P I'm admittedly clueless about pop culture and political events. I have no idea what anyone is talking about in PPR Politics, who the people are that they refer to (I didn't even know who Don Jr., was today so I had to check), and I really don't care to learn. Treat people fairly, human rights for all (LGBTQ+), and don't be racist, sexist, or violent. That's my political mantra. The rest is just chicken feed to me.

Haha it's actually far from obvious. You sound well-informed about the things you talk about. But I remember you said somewhere that you wouldn't even have known about the pandemic if someone hadn't posted about it here. :)

I wish I could stay away from news just as much as you do, but I'm just too curious... I do avoid national news as much as I can though, because it's simply too infuriating and completely pointless. I'm not even curious about it. It's just more of the same every day. Whenever I do hear something about it, it just feels like "well that's not news, it's just a reminder of why I should be upset", and I really don't need or want to be reminded of it.
