As far back as I can remember, except for when I worked independently, I've been met with people who just didn't understand autism. It's so much easier to turn a blind eye, to say, "I think you're weird," or, "You're impossible," than for people to recognize a developmental disability. Before I had my diagnosis and after, not that it has ever mattered, because they thought I'd overcome it- the people I've worked with thought I was weird. And disclosing autism on the job still leads to problems.

This is a sexist and racist society we're still living in. Autistic people have enough challenges. I feel that more needs to be done to help individuals call the shots on their own lives and futures. And if you aren't part of the solution- you're a problem yourself.
