Maybe they're not concerned?
They do operate under a Caste System. The ultra wealthy are leaving on $20,000.00 flights to the UK and UAE. The majority of those getting sick and dying are bound to be poorer "lower," caste people of no concern to the wealthy professional & political classes.
The hindus believe that those who are born in a low Caste deserve that status because they did bad in the previous life.
Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University's School of Public Health in the U.S., said he is concerned that Indian policymakers he has been in contact with believe things will improve in the next few days.
"I've been ... trying to say to them, 'If everything goes very well, things will be horrible for the next several weeks. And it may be much longer,'" he said.
The New Delhi High Court announced it will start punishing government officials if supplies of oxygen allocated to hospitals are not delivered. "Enough is enough," it said.
The deaths reflect the fragility of India's health system. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party has countered criticism by pointing out that the underfunding of health care has been chronic.
So it seems that, just like our own former president, India's prime minister is passing the buck on who is at fault for the lack of pandemic preparedness, and for his own slow and inadequate response as leader of the India's government.

That's from this year? This is whatever the festival celebration day that people all attended during a pandemic that caused this Covid surge?
If so, WTF? How could people be so stupid? Maybe they took their pandemic advice from trump..
Shame that it likely killed a lot of people who didn't attend any of these things, as these maga rally types went back to their homes and communities and spread covid all over the place.

I am thinking the same thing. Not that it will get that bad because a lot of people are vaccinated and we are not that overcrowded but a lot more people will die or become long termer disabled unnecessarly. Endemic COVID will not be like the endemic flu we have lived with because it is more deadly and there are a lot more long termers. The government can lift every restriction they want but just as there is a percentage of the population that will never mask wear, get vaccinated, and social distance there is a percentage of the population the are going to mask wear, social distance if not quarantine themselves for the rest of their lives. The percentage of that population will be a lot more in a permanent COVID endemic world. And the infuriating part is that paranoia will be somewhat justified. A society where a lot more people are not taking precautions will be more risky especially for vulnrable populations. This will be a permanent drag on mental health and the economy.

India’s massive COVID surge puzzles scientists
The virus is spreading faster than ever before in India despite previous high infection rates in megacities, which should have conferred some protection.

Yes the rich have fled to resorts in the gulf but the spike in infections in India have nothing to do with caste. For 2000 years caste keeps groups seperate through a process of endogamy and if anything keeps people apart
The bulk of deaths appear to have impacted northern Indian states hardest where local government is notoriously corrupt and resources for health are less available. Secondly social distancing in Indian society is almost impossible to maintain. This is largely due to high population density, ignorance but also lack of education on safe practices.
Indians are fairly resilient people so will get through this. I am sure their predicament is an opportunity for wealthy westerners to deride their society. Kind of like kicking their people when they are down. Russia has been helpful in supplying vaccines but it looks like the distribution isn't working.

Government is at fault.. but so are all the people - it's not as if they haven't had more than a year's warning not to do these things.. and here they are, doing exactly what they were told not to do.
It's unfortunate that Covid doesn't only maim or kill those who ignored public health guidelines.

It's like witnessing how the plague mowed through Europe some 500 years earlier.
There is material about that nature of thing, and many, many, more topics, here,
