Why is it a penny for your thoughts, but people always want our five cents' worth?

We, Poles, say "grosik za twoje myśli" then - literally, "a little grosz for your thoughts". Zloty (Polish: “gold one”) is the monetary unit of Poland. Each zloty (spelled złoty in Polish) is divided into 100 groszy.

I am still really worried about that person with the penny on his/her back.

Perhaps one of these people could help:

I'll take the 1904 USA penny and leave this one from the year of my birth:

My grandfather used to buy things with cash and save the pennies in his sock drawer. He would give them to me for my penny collection when I was a young boy. As a boy I thought I was as rich as a king when I saw that plastic sandwich bag full of coins.

'Pound wise, penny foolish (not necessarily dollar foolish)' is wiser than 'penny-wise and pound-foolish!'
