internet addiction - identifying and treatment

Some treatment facilities are offering addiction treatment for "Internet Addiction"
Some people disagree with the term.
Anyone have any experience with this one?
Who would you consider to be a reliable authority?

I dont know if its a real medical thing but i feel like I have been a internet addict since the early days of the internet.I do it out of boredom and also other reasons.I would consider a psychiatrist or a psychologist to be credible on this subject.I dont ever want to go without the internet for a extended amount of time.
