How do you feel about a female friend buying you lunch?

I like any situation that proves Milton Friedman wrong, so I won't turn down a free lunch. :nerdy:

No downside - just happy after meeting him after 4 long years of separation due to living abroad.

What is the story about Milton Friedman?

He says there's no such thing as a free lunch.

In the context of friendship, I don't see why this would be an issue. There are certainly some old fashioned types who believe a man should always pay, but that's usually in romantic relationships.

It was better when they cooked my breakfast; but I would always settle for lunch.

He's one lucky guy!

I wouldn't mind it if you bought me lunch----especially at a place which serves Swiss burgers with mushrooms :)

I'll take it. I might ask "are you sure", and if they say yes, I won't insist.

If someone paid for me, I'd order something inexpensive out of respect.

Appreciative. Thankful. Pleased.

And it has happened recently; often two or more of us core members of the local creative writers group will go out for lunch after meeting and sometimes we'll but lunch for each other. Has been a couple times when it was just Liz and I that she's bought lunch. And I think Linda and Amy have each bought me lunch once.

In general I believe in being fair. But that doesn't rule out someone buying me lunch, it just means next time I'll be the one buying for both of us. Nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes if you know someone is struggling financially then it gets awkward. It's a source of pride for them to pay and I don't want to make a big deal out of it. In those circumstances I'd maybe offer to pay for the drinks, or at least be the one who leaves the tip, just to lighten the burden on them a little without causing offence.

Uncomfortable. Threatening. Weird. Kind of a turn off. Comes off desperate and controlling and too nice.
