No joke, but about 99% of every female (teen/adult) I have ever met dye their hair, and I don't just mean whacky colours, I mean blonde women dye their hair black and vice versa, or add a darker or lighter shade or whatever. And I'm not talking about women who dye their hair to cover up grey hairs, as I can quite understand that. But otherwise, every woman seems to have to dye their hair.

I'm beginning to feel like the only woman in the Western world who has never dyed her hair before. I would get it dyed but I can't afford it, and I don't know how to do it myself as I've never had it dyed before. Has anyone here never bothered to have your hair dyed?

It's pretty easy to do if you're up for trying.

The main thing to be wary of is the potential for mess, so wear something that's already ruined, use a towel you don't like and use vasoline around your hairline to keep the dye from running.

I'd offer to help but you know... that whole ocean thing. :P

I dyed mine because my hair color was getting too dull and too faded and I was seeing some gray so I got it dyed my natural hair color again and it looks golden brown again. I'll probably get it dyed again or get a root job done after getting it cut a couple inches again.

I have never dyed my hair, nor do I ever plan on doing so. I really liked my hair, it was a brown base with some blonde hairs and a glint of red when the light hit it just right, making for an overall appearance of a lighter shade of brown.

Pretty much everything I’ve seen/heard says that hair usually comes back darker after chemo, but mine is actually coming in lighter, as more of an ashy or “dirty blonde” color. I plan on just leaving it like that because what I really liked about my hair was having both brown and blonde together, not just the shade the combo gave, and I doubt that can really be achieved with dye.

My mom used to dye her hair more of a reddish color because my brother is strawberry blond through her side of the family, but her hair didn’t naturally say that that’s where the red came from. Since it turned gray/white she’s decided to have fun with it, dying it usually blue or purple.

Apparently there are trends involved.
It doesn't had to be full-blown whole hair involved. It could be just high lights or something less than that.

Sometimes it's out of boredom.
Sometimes, why not? To stand out maybe.
Sometimes it's just social status. Or where you're come from.

Almost every women around me do dye their hair. :lol:

I don't dye my hair. Not intentionally at least. Sometimes without my knowledge.

But if someone dragged me to a hair salon, had it relaxed, one may slip a dye that lighten my hair to a more browner shades. :lol:

Because darker and apparently thicker hair made me looked older, they say.

I have a feeling half blonde-half black hair is going to become EXTREMELY popular very soon due to the new Cruella de Vil movie coming out :P

I'm brunet, and asked my mom to dye my hair black once in my teens. Many other people did that, so I wanted to see what it'd look like on me, too. I haven't had it dyed since, mostly due to the fact that I have so bad nerve damage on my head that it's more likely to hurt than not. Another reason is money, of course. I haven't had a haircut in years, either.

I don't.
All my experiments with dying hair and trying on wigs resulted in either of those two categories:
1. A disaster;
2. Practically indistinguishable from my natural color.

I'm not against people dying their hair, I just wonder why like 99.99% of women around here do (except for hiding grey hair).

[mansplaining=me]

1. Because they can.

2. Because they feel jealousy when other women with different-coloured hair get all the men's attention.

3. Because they easily become bored with the way they look.

4. Because they are generally unhappy with whom they are.

5. Because they simply want to.

6. Because the fashion police say so.

Because one’s natural color isn’t inherently the most flattering.
