Only if the virus jumps from inanimate to animate object. There are supposedly labs in the world that are researching that. God save us if they ever leak the bug into the wild!

As a child back in the middle 90's, I liked to read such a fake news Polish magazine, entitled "Scandals" and its whole content consisted of articles about various weird (!) people and occurences  Like: a teenage telepath, a lady who couldn't ever cut her hair, for it started to bleed then, a woman having mental communication with her Barbie dolls, Hilary Clinton who was going to adopt a baby alien, a haunted dollhouse etc. One of the articles was entitled, I remember:" An amazing case of a dog contracting a computer virus" :D  and this was exactly what the article was about

Technically, I suppose it's possible.

If you had all your assignments, sentimental things stored and lost or unusable due to a virus and the stress from this was significant and anxiety caused and so forth..

Seeing as it's well known that stressful events can contribute significantly to illness.

So I'm inclined to think it's quite possible. :? :(

a computer virus could cause depression, which some call mentally ill, which can be paraphrased to 'sick in the head' [im not a fan of the term at all btw]

Havent read up on side effext of depression for a while, but oh, look!

Depression can affect the immune system, making it harder for your body to fight infection. Some vaccinations, such as the shingles vaccine, may even be less effective in older adults with depression. Depression has also been linked to heart disease and increased risk for substance abuse.

thats effed up! I forgot all about that stuff till this thread brought it up. :?

ps - just saw the post above me mentions anxiety, wonder how many virus were deployed simply to drive the victim nuts!

pps - some of the AI on my iPhone is so bad that at times I wonder if its been compromised.

If you're in the ICU hooked up to lifesaving equipment, and a computer virus messes up that equipment then...yes...a computer virus could kill you.

But you cant "catch" a computer virus FROM your desktop, or laptop, or smartphone. A computer virus is a parasitic computer program that acts in a way that is analogous to how literal biological viruses act in living things, but they are not literally that- biological viruses.

Reminds me of the Weird Al song, Virus Alert

Turn off your computer and make sure it powers down
Drop it in a forty-three-foot hole in the ground
Bury it completely; rocks and boulders should be fine
Then burn all the clothes you may have worn any time you were on-line!
:lmao:
