Exactly. Or like saying all American cartoons suck.
But it is kind of weird, a lot of anime fans seem to watch just about anything, regardless of quality, as long as it's anime.
I could never get into that.
There's a lot of anime that I like, but most of it just isn't for me.

I've never understood that mindset either.

Another long list (from 1998) ...

Things I Learned from Watching Anime

• A girl interested in stealing someone else's boyfriend will politely inform her rival first.
• A haircut is always a traumatic event. So is the first kiss.
• A kind but unlucky guy is blessed/cursed with the perfect magical girlfriend, but will be unable to determine if she is a goddess or a demon.
• A moment of truth is always punctuated by a sudden gust of wind.
• A samurai's sword can cut through anything.
• A show without sexual tension is not worth watching.
• All characters over the age of 60 shrink in height in direct proportion to their age.
• All demons/monsters have enormous genitalia.
• All high school kids in Japan have parents that are away on extended business trips.
• All high school principals in Japan are clinically insane.
• All major villains either want to take over the world or blow it up.
• All people with esper powers give off multicolored auras.
• All persons under the age of 50 can do a ten-foot vertical jump from a standing position.
• All young children can pilot mecha -- you just need to give them a few days.
• Always take gravity into account.
• An "indirect" kiss is the next best thing.
• An anti-climax is a good climax.
• Anime villains have the best deaths.
• Any character can make a leap of 300 ft or more if given a good running start.
• Any conflict you can walk away from is an honorable one.
• Any love interest will always be possessed by a demon.
• Any truly evil person who changes sides for the woman he loves will die in that episode.
• Believe in goddesses.
• Cherry blossoms mean nostalgia.
• Consuming enormous amounts of alcohol daily will never have ill effects.
• Daydreaming leads to accidents.
• Death is always sudden and unexpected.
• Disappearing eyeballs means she's upset; add a sudden change of background and she's really upset.
• Do not trust the guys with two earrings.
• Double suicide is romantic.
• ESP causes more trouble than it solves.
• Even losers have some value.
• Even the bravest souls can be made weak and helpless by the sight of a cute little puppy or kitten.
• Even the most powerful men are allowed to have a full range of emotions.
• Everyone in Japan has excellent singing voices.
• Everyone wants to conquer Japan.
• Evil wears many tentacles.
• Extraterrestrials, demons, time travelers, et cetera, all want to alter the course of history by letting Oda Nobunaga win.
• Fancy ice cream is for girls only.
• Female androids are sexy; male androids are ... male androids.
• Female hair comes in every shade of the rainbow, while male hair is usually some shade of black, brown or blonde.
• Food is a powerful motivator.
• Giving up will not solve your problems.
• Good guys have only first names, and bad guys will have only last names.
• Honor is merely sexy; villainy is irresistible.
• Hot water has innumerable benefits.
• Idiot captains win battles against impossible odds.
• If a boy and a girl grew up together as next-door neighbors, then they're made for each other.
• If a sister falls in love with her brother, somewhere down the line you will discover that they are not blood related.
• If it is homemade but tastes bad, grin and bury it (discreetly).
• If she sings, she is doomed.
• If something interesting happens, then there must be at least one expository flashback about it.
• If the anime has the word "idol" in the title, then you know that it must be good.
• If the lyrics to the OP song are printed on the screen, then you are watching a show that is not for your age group.
• If you make enough porno movies, eventually you can get famous enough to star in commercials.
• If your attack is ineffective, shout louder and try again.
• Importance is directly related to physical attractiveness.
• In space, you can hear everything.
• It is possible to incorporate martial arts into any aspect of life.
• Just about any outer space villain has his sights set on destroying the Earth.

• Takada Yumi really does sing that bad, and people still buy her CDs.
• Teachers have excellent aim with small objects.
• That cute, fuzzy, little creature is not what it seems.
• Teenagers have skills with multiple weapons and magic, the ability to perform superhuman feats, and have many years of experience.
• Tenagers never have to worry about their parents telling them to come home from adventuring before bedtime.
• The average age for adventuring/soldiering is about 15, unless the character is a decorated and battle-hardened soldier, in which case he or she might be as old as 18.

Yeah. And an anime like Pokemon for example is very different in genre and tone, compared to Grave of the Fireflies. They cover all genres it seems, so I too do not see why people can just put them all into one category.

In my opinion anime is a debate that isnt going to go anywhere as people who like it are going to defend it to the grave even the bad parts. For one it sexualizes young girls to the max which is completely unacceptable as guys in there 20's mostly get off over this which essentially make them pedophiles. Japan is a hotspot for them. Young girls over there sell their used underwear in vending machines to high class buisness men. Forever am i seeing posted of anime girls in their underwear. Lolicon is all about pedophilia as well. Yet i have heard by most men that sexualization in anime is acceptable. But most peoples excuses are that it has taught them the power of friendship etc. The female characters prance around with baby voices like the children they are wearing next to nothing with an adults body. I can go on with this as it never ends how bad it is. So if this triggers you then you accept this and you need serious help.

Well I think this kind of sounds like a big leap, like saying that anyone who watches or reads entertainment with killing in wants to be a murderer or something along those lines, when not all people are like that, but are still entertained. I was entertained about Rambo III even though it had a record for a high body count at the time, but that doesn't mean I want to go out and do that of course.

Plus I don't think all anime can be lumped into this, and you have to take each story and judge it on a case by case basis, since not anime is the same.

It true though. Plus I didnt say all anime.
Also murder is irrelevant as the topic is anime.
But I get your point.

Anime depicts murder far more than it depicts what you're describing, although to be fair I tend to avoid anime that normalizes what you're describing.

Initial D has a subplot involved 'compensated dating' but it certainly wasn't depicted in a positive manner even if it was depicted as semi-normalized.

I avoid anime altogether but I'm just giving my opinion on the bad parts.

he's right though, and I'm not even going into what I saw in the manga-store in tokyo.
but what he describes is not restricted to anime, but anime is the most widely available asian media product. And it doesn't adhere to western moral standards.
However, anime is even being criticized by japanese artists, for some of the same issues, but with different motivations.
Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki actually doesn't want his films associated with anime, and calls them "manga-films" himself, and Hideaki Anno as well as the superflat art movement have tried to criticize and satirize anime-tropes with irony... it was the 90s.
And of course, irony is an ineffective way of critique, because even if you're doing something ironically, you're still doing it.

A lot of Japanese eccentricity is justified with having lost ww2, and having to defend its unique culture - and having the right to defend it because it's the only country the nuclear bombs have been dropped on.
(remember Paranoia Agent? the mushroom cloud in the opening sequence of a show which begins with the murder of a mascot-designer? - that's what that is about).

I find anime and its self-critique and comment on japanese culture and society interesting to watch.

I don't blame anime for reflecting cultural issues within Japanese culture any more than I blame trap music for reflecting problems within the culture that spawned it.

America is basically like this now, too, except girls sell their underwear online instead of in vending machines.
Lots of girls webcam stream themselves now, have OnlyFans accounts, etc. etc.
It's been a huge controversy on Twitch for a while, now.

No, of course not. At least not reasonably. :nerdy:

A lot of young men are obsessed over female anime characters.
