Can't join the chat

Hello, new here. I generally enjoy a good IRC. Was attempting to join #wrongplanet from my freenode account.
I am logged in, my username on freenode is epl692. (Would you believe a 3 character username is registered there?) Anyways, I've known about this site for years, just don't think I ever got involved, certainly don't think I would have done anything to get banned? Would anyone be able to help me debug my connection issues? I get the following error.

#wrongplanet: Cannot join channel (+b) - you are banned

I have not managed to get the chat part of this site to work. I don't think it does work to be honest.

There have been issues recently with freenode - this thread has been updated with information on handling that.

BTW, #wrongplanet is maintained entirely separately from the website, Wrong Planet - we have no control or influence over it.

Truthfully, I don't think I'd be back there anytime soon. I don't recommend.
One bad experiences was more than enough for me.

A possibility is that you may have got an IP address that WP banned before.

Moderators on WP the website have no influence or control over #wrongplanet the IRC channel, including banned IPs - that is, a banned IP here wouldn't mean a banned IP there.
