Of course both Quantum Mechanics and Black Holes are well-understood phenomena amongst scientists. So it isn't really magic to scientists.

I think "magic" depends on the individual perspective and definitions.

Way too nuanced a question to survive this thread.

I think the only thing this might be overprioritizing is the idea of people having 'supernatural' effects on the world around them rather than the idea of grapping with either truly complex systems or both truly complex and conscious. I think that's the place to start from where the broader topic gets more coherent.

Probably. Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy were published in 1531 and that tends to be a major touchstone for a lot of the alchemical and theurgic work that came later.

It would have been great, in the short term, if people were able to turn lead into gold.

But....if this would have happened, gold would have been relegated to the monetary value of lead.

Magic, fairies, ghosts, religion; all fabricated by humans to wield power over vulnerable people. As we grow up people who call themselves 'parents' read us stories about monsters and the like which dont appear to exist, however since adulthood I now realise they do exist. Only the human race has the ability to behave monstrously. They are the politicians, the religious leaders and the next door neighbour who are constantly looking to exploit vulnerable people.
