My friend, Mike B died this week. We weren't all that close but my wife and his wife and I used to meet at a group or couples. Most of the couples stopped coming when COVID-19 hit Pennsylvania March 2020. I would see him and Barb at church sometimes but he was worried about his health and would keep his distance. We heard on the grapevine that he was having an operation and was in ICU. Then we heard that he had passed. Trying to process it.

Hugs Fenn, and my condolences. :(

It's not easy losing someone unexpectedly like that. It takes a long time to process, and kind of puts our own lives in perspective. I hope you're able to reach out to his wife, even with a note or card.

May he rest in peace.

I'm sorry for this loss. It's hard when it's a person of your own (approximate) generation.

My mother (also passed) used to joke that every time you go to a funeral they seat you one pew closer to the front. When you reach the font pew they throw you over the railing and then you get to be the guest of honor.
Barb seems to be taking it hard - it was a second marriage for both of them.
We will go to the viewing - I never know what to say at these things. All he ever wanted to be was a career officer in the Marines. He had a couple of kids in the armed services and he was so proud of them. He got discharged because of health so he never got his dream. He joked one time that if it was a choice between the Marines or Barb he would pick the Marines in a minute. I looked at Barb and said "it's hard when he talks about his first Love isn't it?". He really loved her and took good care of her - he did all the cooking. Made her coffee every morning.

I’m sorry for your loss. I never know what to say either.

When I was younger it never seemed to bother me when people passed. They were usually older relatives I had not known or hardly known. It all seems closer now every time. Mom died of cancer 10 years ago but it still seems "recently" to me unless I do the math.

Thanks to all who offered condolences.

He sounds like a very good person, and a great parent.

Please feel free to keep ranting here if you want to talk about your grief.

:(

My wife and I went to the funeral. We saw the family and shared condolences. Mike's son have a good talk and praised his brothers and sisters as (he believed) his father saw them.

My shrink said I need to "sit with my feelings" and consider the "stages of grief".
