Someone asked me, "Why is it June 10th and not June 19th"?

Juneteenth or Junenineteenth ?

Let me stop you there. The Far Left, as far as politicians politically lean in America these days, does not exist. They disappeared when the Cold War started. Whatever politicians you accuse of being far left are not as far left as you think. Even Bernie Sanders is considered a close left. Sure, there are a lot of far left people especially on social media, but they're not politicians. The status quo would never let them become as such. A lot of democrat politicians politically lean to where republicans used to be 40 years ago and republicans have moved a lot further to the right since then.

I have to disagree. Bernie is a self defined socialist. This would have been unthinkable just 20 years ago. I would consider the "Squad" as incredibly far left to be in the Congress of the United States. This may just be a disagreement about symantics, but from my point of view this country has drifted way left in recent years.

They passed the bill unanimously. I think that's great, and I'm sure the House of Representatives will also approve it and it will be signed into law.

However, call me a cynic, but I think this is a sop to allow Republicans to tout their support of the black population. True, the Senate has a titular narrow Democratic majority, but that doesn't explain the unanimous support for Juneteenth.

For those not familiar, Juneteenth (shortened form of June 19th) commemorates the day that African-American slavery finally ended in the United States. It actually had been forbidden by law prior to that, but nobody told the slaves in Texas until June 19, 1865.

You can thank the Republicans that the slaves were freed!

Yes, but at the time, they were waving a different flag. Interesting to note, it is the modern Republicans that made the Confederate Monument state holidays. It is also the Republicans that are trying to protect the Confederate names on our military bases and are trying to weaken voting laws to disenfranchise minority voters. The GOP is also attacking teaching our history of slavery and white supremacy as well as groups looking for social equality among racial groups.

Turn off CNN.
