Was at restaurant with friends and saw a girl who had a crush on me in high school. Asked my friends for advice and they said to wait till your leaving. I noticed she was leaving so I walked up to her and talked to her for a bit. She said "thankyou for talking to me" and left. She had a baby so perhaps she had a partner, there's no harm checking though. Should I have not gone up to her whatsoever because I wasn't leaving?

I think it was lovely of you to take the initiative and talk to her. She may have a partner but everyone likes to be recognized and noticed in a kind way.

Nope. There's definitely no harm in talking to someone and possible she does have a partner or has been going through a ton of things maybe and it was nice you were talking to her.
