Is it really true that when you die that you will never be alive or aware of anything ever again?

No more unimaginable than the idea that your consciousness has a start point and didn't exist prior to that.

Logically I would think the state would be much like existence (or lack thereof) before being born. If it can begin, why can’t it end?

Not bringing any religious beliefs into it here, a. because this isn’t PPR and b. I can provide no solid evidence to support or deny any such beliefs, and so do not deem myself knowledgeable enough to say anything for sure on that matter.

Idunno, I'll ask God and get back to you.

No. It is not true at all. It is complete fiction.

I wasn’t intending to aim the PPR comment at you or anything, sorry if it came across that way  Just trying to explain why I wasn’t theorizing about anything religious here.

Depends who you ask. Many people think they will go to heaven where everyone will look like supermodels and they can dance on clouds forever and the caretaker is some old bearded dude.

Christianity (yes, like Islam), was a civilizing force during the "Dark Ages."

I don't believe in God----but I believe in some of the morality of religion.

I know, it's scary to imagine while being alive. People say it's like being asleep, but it still doesn't make it any easier to imagine. Usually when I'm asleep I dream, and some of your senses are still active while you're asleep. When you're dead nothing works and I am so scared of death because of how I can't imagine the reality of it.

Meat doesn't think, it doesn't dream and it doesn't worry. By the time it's occurred you'll have nothing to worry about because your involvement in the world will be over.

It's hard to think about, but it is true. When you die and your brain stops functioning it can't and won't process any of your senses anymore, so you just immediately stop getting to process and be aware of things. It's always such an odd thing to me to think about the fact that my awareness and existence is entirely dependent on some electricity bouncing around a blob of jelly in my skull. 8O
