The MIND Institute is the place to go for autism diagnosis. You'll have to be screened through the Regional Center. (What's 4 hours north? due North or northeast?)

I lived in Chico and my son was diagnosed there, it's in UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Otherwise, there are hardly any neurologists in the area and the waiting period is very long.

Well, North-northwest. On the coast, up 101 from San Francisco. Sacramento would be a 6-8 hour drive, I think.

I think Sacramento is your best bet. I just think you would go through a different Regional Center than Redding (Far Northern).

MIND Institute contact page

This link is the contact page. We dealt only through the Far Northern Regional Center. I think you are under a different regional center. Depends on where you are.

I will state for the record that the MIND Institute has curebie missions and offers "clinics" that are research studies. You don't have to participate and frankly, once we had our diagnosis, no one contacted us after that. But if you can get screened and are found eligible to go there, it's a free visit. If you are interested in curebie stuff (news, studies, lectures) you have access to it all.

My 9 y/o DD was just diagnosed and participated in a study at the MIND Institute. It was a great experience for her, and me too. We'll be having our 5 y/o evaluated there- hopefully soon- waiting for referral.

What's blackmetal?

(I'm thinking of cast iron, here, but I suspect that's not what you mean).
