Nope -- even though I've been dealing with a lot of electronics I've never seen this arrangement before. Looks like the batteries are in series, providing anywhere from 3.6 to 4.5 volts, depending on the type of batteries inserted...

Cool torch / flashlight!

I do have a torch which my mother bought for me recently (like yours but bigger and ridiculously heavy!) and the batteries load in the same way.

But before that I had not seen anything which loaded batteries like that.

As far as I know, these battery containers are only used in LED flashlights/LED devices. LED flashlights require three batteries in series to power them because of the higher voltage requirement. Most flashlights run on two batteries. Put the flat part of the battery against the springs just like installing any other batteries. The battery containers break easily if you drop them too. I tested an 28 LED light on three cheap AAA batteries and it ran for around 10 hours on a bright/normal light and had a dim light until around 30-40 hours.

I have two like that and am amazed how long the rum on AAA batteries. I lost one in my truck, I am a very messy person, and found it the next day still on
