My partner has found this lab assistant job she really wants to apply for. She's writing her CV and her cover letter but she's concerned that she doesn't have anyone to put as the referee or reference.

Her last two jobs were self-employment and her job before that was with people who don't speak English. When she was self-employed most of her staff didn't speak English either.

This question may have been asked here before but who can you put down as a reference?

Business references, and personal references.

People she's worked with. And people she knows outside of work.

A colleague, a boss, a friend.

Do you know if there are many other Chinese people who work for the company she is applying for? Perhaps Chinese people may work in HR, so maybe they could contact her references and speak in Chinese. Maybe she can do a CV in Chinese, too.
