Maybe Freddy, Jason and Michael would be more appropriate.

Why is it surprising that they would ban the name?

Lucifer is not something that you would wanna saddle your kid with.

Which is sad because its a perfectly good name. It sucks that the word that means "Bringer of Light" came to mean "the Prince of Darkness", and it only due to a bunch of historic mistakes. Originally it just meant either of the two "morning stars" (Mercury, or Venus).

But the name is stuck with that false association with the devil.

"The name....would be most fearful of" that you're alluding to? If it's "Adolf" there maybe post war German laws about that name too.

When I was a kid in the late Sixties I heard a funny news thing on the radio about a retired Florida state beauracrat who collected all of the "most unusual names that parents had registered for their newborn children".

The radio announcer read off the long list of crazy names. But the only one I remember was "Emancipation Proclamation".

Mom and I had a laugh about it. I didnt blame parents, of a certain ethnic group, for naming their kid that, but...I couldnt imagine what you call your kid on a day-to-day basis if they were "Emancipation Proclamation Jones", or whatever.

Mom said well...you could call them "Mantz" ..."HEY MANTZ!".

"Yeah that works"I replied.
