Actually I believe that studies probably indicate people on the spectrum are less likely to commit crime, likely because we're generally introverted perhaps? Not sure.
Unless you're forced to from example, threats to your personal safety, family etc... this case spectrum or not.. you will commit crime in a severe attempt to give perpetrators what they want, my case.. money. I believe anyone would do almost anything for saving themselve, their families and so on.. as I write this I am certain that if I venture out, I'm likely to be kidnapped or harmed severely. I can feel it. I had to keep my family safe! Lord forgive me.

Will you stop with the garbage about autism and criminality!

It’s the most asinine thing!

No.

The western narratives (more particularly the UK and also more with the US from my point of view) has this weird obsession around autism, concerning alleged sociopathy, psychopathy, pedophilia, aggression, violence and school shootings.

A lot of western narratives, plenty from the medical accounts no less, already have a part with dehumanizing autism -- one of these accounts leads to the creation of ABA.

Let alone media; news, social media in these recent years.

Research actually shows that we are more likely to be victims than criminals

That's also true of mental illness, but there's a stigma attaching mental illness to crime in some contexts.

I'd say there's bigger stigma connecting crime and mental illness than crime and ASD, further I'd say if the ASD = criminal notion exists it's probably mostly within people who also think ASD = mental illness and mental illness = crime.

Basically the ignorant.

This.

I also heard that adults with ADHD are very well known for getting into trouble with the law, but I don't even know if that's true or not. It can sometimes depend on one's upbringing. I was brought up to be respectful, secure, decent and honest, and nobody in my family has ever committed a crime, so I'm not likely to either. Also I don't drink or take drugs and I choose my friends wisely.

When people decide to scapegoat instead of actually trying to solve a problem (i.e. violent crimes), they usually pick people to blame who are already marginalized, because they can't as easily relate to them and it makes them feel less guilty about it.

we have to keep an eye it doesnt get worse,

and I should confront Sam via any institution letting him use the title professor.

or better yet threaten him with that if he dosnt make a retraction vid.

btw to get rid of this error it will help heaps to get rid of Uta Frith, who is a crackpot.

The only question is if she knows it or not.

A lot of those who promote her version of Wittgenstein must!

oh, she proably sort of knows, till the warm embrace of dissonance repeats and she is a scholar in her own mind..

I never heard that stereotype in my whole life until I joined WP.

This seems to be the only place people say it.

I'd rather see threads and media coverage about the fact we are often conned, victimised, or gas lighted.

And how some of us will believe fringe ideas for no other reason that the ideas are fringe-worthy.

Same. I'd heard about lots of stereotypes about aspies before I joined, but this was a new one.

And people who look at issues from both sides now, or all perspectives.

I dont know IF people in general "think ASD equals criminal".

But in the US SOME spree killers were said to be autistic (like the Sandy Hook guy).

So folks (in the United States) MAY think that autistics are more prone to that one crime ...spree killing and mass murder.

And (hate to say it) its not impossible that there maybe some truth to that about that particular crime ( maybe spree killers are more likely to be autistic then percentage of autistics in the general population). But thats probably the opposite of the truth about crime in general. Aspies/auties are more likely to be victims of crime, than perps. Were trusting, and like that.

ADHD people are the thrill seekers, who tend to get rap sheets in juvenile court. Not aspies.

Had a friend who I thought at the time must be ADHD. Havent seen him in ages, but I now also think that he may have been a sociopath too. But I digress.
