Does anyone else have a job that's just...not very social at all? I mean, I like that a lot of the time I'm mostly on my own, but sometimes I want to talk to people and I don't know what to say. I just want to get to know a few people better who I work with.

The usually segue is to ask on a Monday morning, How was your weekend?

The flip side is, ask on friday: doing anything fun this weekend?

Try to remember what anyone mentions doing in their off time so you can ask follow up questions later.

I.e. tech guy goes home early on Tuesday to pick up his daughter from kindergarten because shes become ill. Wednesday morning, ask him: how is your daughter feeling? Or "I hope your daughter is doing better!"

Most of the time stuff like this makes people feel cared about and then they start to open up to you more.

It doesnt always work. But it can help.
