I tried EMDR and it immediately scrambled my brain - couldn't do it. I had no idea but I've wondered for years what caused its ineffectiveness. Has anyone else here ever had trouble with EMDR?

Yes, I've tried it without success. I've heard it can be helpful for some people, but it just caused me to "meltdown" it was too distressing for me so I won't try it again.

My therapist also specialises in EMDR but I’ve been hesitant due to my hypersensitivity and fear of breakdowns or meltdowns that will affect my daily function…

They have started doing it with things other than light now, like tapping/vibrating alternating hands. I haven't tried either, but the tapping/vibrating option sounds better to me since I'm sensitive to bright lights. I could see flashing a light in my eyes being more harmful than helpful.

I had a TIA immediately after my EMDR when I tried to stand up. Then I suffered a stroke.

I think it was definitely doing something purposeful, but the trauma was too intense for my brain to process.

I won't do it again.

My daughter does it with a different provider, and she loves it.
