I have gotten this message more times than I can count (not really, it's now 44 attempts) as I try to send a PM:

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Incorrect string value: '\xF0\x9F\x98\x8A\x0A\x0A...' for column 'message_text' at row 1 [1366]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.

Can anyone explain what is happening?

It looks like an error message to me.

I can't say I knw why it happens though.

Does the same thing happen if other people PM you?

Are you trying to use an emoji character?  Something in your environment may not be set up to correctly process Unicode text.  The byte sequence "F0 9F 98 9C" is the UTF8 encoding of the Unicode character for a face with stuck-out tongue and winking eye (e.g., it is an emoji character).

When I tried to use that emoji in this post, I got the same error.  Removing it solved the problem.

And you were! Very! I suspected you were correct, but now I'm returning after removing them and hitting 'send' and it went without a hitch. Yay! Thanks again!

Yes and it's not limited to PMs.

Why it happens?
Well... it's like this website can read the "code" from the emoji keyboard, but it translates into error because it's not in raw like text and not "compatible".

... I can't explain it well. :lol:
It'll likely not a right description for it.
