A Brief History of Metaphysics.
Descartes declared the mind and body are seperate, he called it dualism. It aligned with religious beliefs of the time that the body is a like a clock and the mind is a window to the soul.
It wasn't till Freud that science accepted the mind and body are intricately connected that dualism (the basis of the biomedical model of medicine) was finally questioned.
