Reuters

Quote:
Four U.S. Marines were killed and three wounded in Thursday's explosions at Kabul airport, U.S. sources told Reuters, in what the Pentagon said was a "complex attack" during its evacuation mission from Afghanistan.

In a statement, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed multiple U.S. fatalities but did not give details. The U.S. servicemembers were among those killed when at least two blasts tore through crowds thronging the airport gates.

A Taliban official said at least 13 people, including children, were killed. Video from the scene showed what appeared to be dozens of bodies and wounded civilians.

U.S. officials have said there are about 5,200 American troops providing security at Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport. The attacks came after the United States and allies urged Afghans to leave the area around the airport because of a threat by Islamic State militants.

A source familiar with U.S. congressional briefings said U.S. officials strongly believe that the Afghan affiliate of Islamic State, known as Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), after a historic name for the region, was responsible.

It is in ISIS's interest to destabilise Taliban held Afghanistan.

Human filth in action. 8)

Based on what has been reported, the Taliban hate ISIS and vice versa.
The Taliban has called the ISIS attack terrorism.

It makes sense.
It would be of interest to the Taliban to stabilise their new country.
It would be of interest to ISIS to destabilise their enemy while killing the allies.
Expect more suicide bombings.

Yep.

The Taliban look like Father Christmas when compared to ISIS.

So...lets all start rooting for the Taliban!

Taliban warns there will be 'consequences' if Biden delays withdrawal of US troops
Maybe it was in the Taliban’s interest to demonstrate these consequences prior to the deadline and to have ISIS take the blame.

I heard reports that ISIS took responsibility for the bombings.
Presumably, it came from a reliable source.
But it could also have been a "False Flag" operation, tho I tend to believe it was bona fide.
Perhaps time will establish/verify the Truth. [shrug]

I think there is one point on which everyone here will agree: it is devastatingly heartbreaking to know these things are happening.

I don’t have anything I can offer but thoughts and prayers to all those directly affected. I wish there was more, but I’m lost.
