Hi,
I am wanting to know if anyone has recommendations for doctors in Northern NSW Australia who are willing to diagnose/assess Adult Female Autism.

I keep being dismissed because "she communicates fine"

I know I'm out of touch in terms of labels, but many years ago I thought I may have Asperger's. Now I am convinced that myself and my children have it. Although when I took them through the process of seeing paediatricians, ASD was always scoffed at and I was made to feel like an idiot.

I saw a psychiatrist for the first time yesterday and after 20 mins he told me I had BPD. I told him that it makes sense but that I would still like to be assessed for autism because I believe there are overlapping traits and I don't think you can make an assessment like that in 20 mins. He told me that he had made his diagnosis and that I was free to get a second opinion.

Is 20 mins all a doctor needs to diagnose you?

Anyway, I have a lot of feelings that I don't know what to do with.

I do know that I need to find a doctor who has more knowledge in this area, I just don't know where to begin.

Thanks.

I’ve heard it is overwhelmingly common for women who are on the spectrum to be misdiagnosed before getting an ASD diagnosis…

Whilst I don’t know anyone in NSW, there is a woman in VIC who specialises in diagnosing adult women. She currently does online assessments due to COVID so she may be able to take you if you are interstate?

Her name is:
Janine Manjiviona

If she can’t do a diagnosis online with you, she may be able to recommend someone in Northern NSW for you.

I wish you luck
