I think the title of this thread needs to be fixed: require vaccine proof and get fined

This is a privacy issue.
Remember back when AIDS was the was the pestilence of the day? Asking a persons HIV status was something that could get you sued.

Yep if Melbourne had taken the approach to HIV that they are taking with Covid now, if we had treated it as a police state/law and order issue Australia would most likely have become a consolation to South Africa in terms of HIV infections.

How do we know this?
Because back in the 1980's some countries chose to treat it like a health issue other countries chose to treat it as a law and order problem. And the ones that chose stigmatisation and HIV Apartheid had a disastrous time of it.

In every case, the law and order approach was an unmitigated disaster.
Funding Hospitals to treat the cases that happen and health education to increase peoples knowledge historically work much better.
