Isn't one of your very conservative senators a noted Simpsons fan?

Maybe a Ned Flanders fan. He still is no fan of South Park.

Oh really? Seems you're not familiar with your elected representatives and their taste in animated television:

Also, South Park Conservatives are still a thing, even if the term has fallen out of common use.

"Annoy an Evangelical" would work as well. "Annoy a Muslim" would be even better.

People have been frustrated and looking for something/someone to fight for a long time. You can practically feel it in the air; that attitudes have been boiling. It's like kindling waiting for a spark.

The good news is that it feels to me like its finally tamping down a little. Time will tell.

My original major when I began college, in 1998, was computer science. The combination of the lack of preparation my high school gave me, and a couple of as*hole professors at college put me off that track forever. I am still paying the price over it.

If I had been prepared in high school, and if I were able to attend another college, I could have had a degree in CS, and made enough money to live in either NYC, San Francisco or Seattle, and met tons of people who liked the Simpsons and South Park as much as I do.

It really is unfortunate how strongly a bad school experience can resonate through out a life.

I am forever grateful for the school system my children were raised in. It may not have ranked well on standardized test scores, but my kids entered college extremely well prepared.

I will never not like Trey Parker and Matt Stone. In 1998 i was 10 years old. And i was perfectly in tune with their sense of comedy. And i guess still am.

No offence to Americans on here but America is one of the last places in the west I would want to live. The whole mentality seems to be based around selfishness and looking after number 1. Religion getting tied into so many things, even politics, seems like lunacy to outsiders. Life having such little value that you can purchase assault rifles just in case you get into a dispute with someone. The media clearly being designed to divide society and cause multiple problems, yet the population seems to gobble it up like its a soap opera. It's a country that appears to thrive on anger, hatred and division.

Aren’t our taxes and real estate prices cheaper than the UK?
I can’t imagine what 20 acres would go for there.

US taxes are deceptive in that states have their own independent tax systems in the US, a reality that has few parallels in other countries.

A lot of the Americans have a lot of awful s**t to deal with but so do we, we have an incompetent majority tory government that don't even know their arse from their elbow. Still though I do agree we have it slightly better over here thanks to the welfare system if something does go wrong, our sh***y media isn't much better though - I mean it pretty much killed Diana as a result and made many celebrities commit suicide so we don't really have it that much better.

The way I see America is like the UK on steroids but thankfully we're really toned down in all these different aspects. We don't have all that religious stuff over here thankfully, we're pretty chill in that regard. Our countries main problems are the pedophile rings, incredibly bad rape issue and the import/taxation stuff.

If you want to buy a small 2 bedroom cottage here you're looking at £200k-300k, our house and land prices are literally through the roof you need to either be a business owner or a landlord to buy property here these days. The rents here are ridiculous too.

Our country is not much better off than America we just have different stuff we struggle with more or less than America.

That and PBS only seems to broadcast younger kiddie stuff and "adult" dry culture and educational shows. Not knocking on those kind of shows, but there does seem to be lack of variety of genre.

There's elements I like about each of them. I used to really like TVO as a kid as well. Me at 8 was older than I am now. :nerdy:

:D :D :D Simpsons and Southpark.
Sad that your high school was so badly run. Sounds like your professors needed re education themselves . :(

To nearly all conservatives, watching those shows is as bad as watching porn.

As such, when it comes to dating, asking a partner "Do you watch the Simpsons and South Park?" is tantamount to asking "Do you want to come to my place and fornicate?"

This is really a stereotype from a bygone era to me. The left are screaming a lot louder about those things now.
We are not living in the '80s. Probably a few old guys, but I can't really find anyone who is classical liberal or conservative that considers shows like that as big of a deal today. And "South Park" especially is more centrist in it's commentary. Yeah, maybe a few conservatives will still bat their eye because the content is vulgar, but it's not like it is a far-lefty show.

I'm not sure that's a bad thing. Public broadcasters can reorient themselves to distribute online, but there's also lots of great subscriber funded content and lots of stuff available for free on different Tube style sites.

In a lot of ways the bar for doing something analogous to public-access has been greatly lowered. The downside is that there's more crap out there but the upside is how much solid content in available, so long as one is willing to wade through the rest of it.
