Yup, a lot of people just want to be left alone, as someone with feet in both camps, this is what it feels like right now:

Image

If only that was true about the right. Full Frontal With Samantha Bee ran a story about trans women in Wyoming who had purchased their own ranch, and just wanted to be left alone. And then the right wingers came to the nearby town to parade with their "Don't Tread On Me" flags down the street, and explicitly calling for ending the rights for the local trans Americans who hadn't offended anyone but be trans. So frightened, they set up security cameras around their ranch, and it turns out that paranoia was justified. The cameras caught three heavily armed militia types creeping up on their ranch during the night. The trans women escorted them off their property at gunpoint. So, no, the right doesn't always just want to be left alone. And that's hardly the only case of conservatives wanting to shove their views down someone else' throat.

Keep in mind though, for transphobes there's often a tendency to treat trans-people's mere existence as an infringement on their rights so from their perspective it is still I just want to be left alone it's just that the expectations that define being left alone are unreasonable.

People justify their hate, even when that hate is irrational.

You do realise you are talking about the *far* right, right?
I hope you aren't saying everyone who isn't a democrat would act like that?
Not every leftist is as extreme as antifa, either. 8)

Most certainly I know that. But with Trump having energized the lunatic right, they're the ones seemingly leading the pack.

Leading the pack of those who are into violence.
The same as antifa.

Strange (and somewhat misleading) way to portray the far right? given they were quite public like they wanted to be out in force during the Trump era

Image
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/8/2 ... e-election

I don't recall the Charlottesville marchers or those carrying far right flags at the capitol riots being "shrinking violets" wanting to be left alone?

Nearly every Trump rally has members of right wing milita virtually mirroring the far-left caricature you posted.

Propaganda Doxy?

Do I need to condescendingly explain to you what a fringe is? I mean I will, but it's getting tiresome.

It's not misleading as that's the vast majority of the right wing, the guys attending the events with the Swastikas are a tiny, tiny fringe, even you should be able to grasp that, if you weren't so motivated not to. Trust me, if they ever go from "I want to be left alone" to "you should have left me alone", it's not going to be a bunch of guys taking selfies with viking horns on.

But it wasn't Antifa threatening those Trans women.

The far right, when it comes to COVID-19, may say they just want to be left alone, but if they aren't isolating themselves onto their own property and staying put, they aren't leaving the rest of the population alone. To say one wants to be left alone while mixing in public at will, entering workplaces without masks, and sending their children to school without masks is naive. That is, in fact, forcing their own personal beliefs onto everyone else and endangering public health. If there was any honest intellectual dispute on how COVID-19 works I could accept the dissonance, but there isn't.

One can argue that climate change is similar, except that many on the far right (looking only at the people I personally know) are more likely to complain about the terminology than actually live a large foot-print life. All I had to do with one relative is remind him that being climate conscious looks an awful lot like being financially frugal, which he most definitely is. We had a good laugh because truth was we're on the same page as to how to live. He just hadn't heard anyone say it like that.

It's a meme, it's not intended to be a complex argument, but rather to make a point about how people come off and react; admit it, you recognize the guy on the left, he posts on this board quite frequently, under many different names, and the fact that he's so exaggerated just makes him more recognizable, which is why so many people are reacting to him. Notice that I didn't point any fingers when I posted it either, and the two sides are labeled far left and right, but the people who felt called out revealed themselves without my having to do anything, another of the things I've come to appreciate about the medium.

I think I've mentioned, I don't care for memes and I never use them. They are always emotional hit pieces and do twist the discourse in what I find is an unproductive way. Even when I agree with them they trigger a sharp reaction.

I wouldn't have commented if it hadn't been quoted so much. I guess I'm speaking to the unknown broader audience.

I hope you noticed that I limited my comments to a few select issues, the ones that most clearly involve all of us. The where your rights run into mine thing.

On the contrary, the far right a broad church

A lot of them don't carry labels or identifiers.
