Shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and many others get picked up, but not every animated show is that lucky to get picked up. Why is that?

Cartoon network says for a show to be picked up by them, the show needs "heart, fart and smart", i.e. it needs to be emotional, silly and juvenile, and more than an intellectual insult.

However, the cartoon network pilot I worked on didn't get picked up, though you could argue it had all these things.
So... I don't know. Some executive just has to like it, I guess.

Okay. Do you have other reasons?

Even if it does get picked up, it has to compete with the channel's juggernauts otherwise it'll get cancelled. If it can't bring in the ratings an average episode of SpongeBob or Loud House bring in, the network will move it to a timeslot where less people will watch it or to a side channel where even less people will watch it just to kill it off slowly. On CN, it's just as worse. Your shows will have to compete with Teen Titans Go and your show can be unceremoniously cancelled at any time even before you reach your definitive ending.

Maybe, they didn't like the concept.
