Economically and diplomatically, sure.

Militarily? I doubt it'll go that far.

They have asked us if we want to become a nuclear target as a result of getting nuclear subs.
*That* is a threat par excellence.

Pretty stupid, as much of the Chinese threats are, since our nuclear subs won't have nuclear weapons.

I gather you don't watch a lot of news reports.
I, on the other hand, usually have the news channel on throughout the day and night. 8)

Politicians of all sorts bluster a lot. I'll believe a military buildup towards Australia is imminent when I see more news reports confirming that it's actually happening. And yes, I do read a lot of news reports (even more so than watching TV news).

Emmanuel Macron ‘staging a hissy fit to save his skin in France’: Andrew Bolt
November 04, 2021 - 19:49PM

French President Emmanuel Macron is staging a “theatrical hissy fit” over the scrapped $90 billion submarine deal to “save his skin in France,” according to Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“France is in trouble; it is so divided,” Mr Bolt said.

“It’s had huge terrorist attacks, the worst in Europe, and many riots as well.

“Many French fear their country has lost not just its old glory but its unity and even identity.”

Mr Bolt noted the French President faces an election next year.

“Can we be please, now, be clear about one thing at least? This French rage – it’s not about Morrison,” he said.

“It’s about Macron; this is a desperate man.”
