I'm partially a socialist in that I detest materialism and consumerism, and can't see why anyone needs or should have more than about £25,000 to £50,000 per year. I'm also from a Northern working class background, and can't identify a great deal with the lifestyles and opinions of the British middle classes and upwards.
I'd find it very difficult to vote Labour though, mainly because of their obsession with identity politics and political correctness, which I loathe.
Thing is, that after Thatcher left office, the Tories tried a couple of more traditionally Conservative leaders in Duncan-Smith and Howard, but these guys just failed to make much impact. After that, the Tories capitulated and elected their own versions of Tony Blair, namely Cameron, May and now Johnson. They also seem to be scared to say anything against the ridiculously named 'progressive' consensus on social and cultural matters, and have taken the soft option of embracing that agenda, which is another reason I'll never vote for them.
Do you like 'Blue labour'? Paul Embery? I'm from a solid, middle class background, but severe mental illness has pushed me down the social scale . I'm too down at heel to mix with middle class types , but on the other hand quite a few working class people over the years have regarded me as a 'f*****g weirdo'. If Labour went 'blue labour' I'd vote for them still but with a big peg on my nose.
