This used to happen all the time in families.

An older sister might have truly been a "mother" to someone....and the actual mother served as the "grandmother."

So. Why is that a man would date someone who is young enough to be his daughter whom he knew when they were either babies, toddlers or barely out of diapers.

Lots of reasons.

Some people believe that we choose partners based on their reproductive potential. Men can remain reproductively viable well into old age while most women struggle to conceive by their mid forties.

We age and our tastes change but I don't think you ever stop being able to appreciate beauty and physical attractiveness in youth.

Some people feel younger when they're with younger people. There's that rotten old gag, "You're as young as the woman you feel." But there's some truth in it.

Youth is fetishised. Tight skin, firm bodies - there's a reason these things are used so extensively in advertising. Look at adverts for age-related products - wrinkle creams, retirement homes, stairlifts - the actors used in them are rarely as old as the target audience.

Maybe vanity plays a part. Some older men like to be seen with younger women because they feel it reflects positively on them, makes them feel virile, a self-esteem boost.

As for why they'd have a relationship with a young girl they knew when they were a baby, well yeah - maybe there's something ick about that. Because you start to think about exactly when the older person began to think about that younger person in that way. And you start to wonder at what point they started...um...let's be generous and use the word courting rather than grooming...that person. It certainly raises some questions. But there's also the possibility that the fact they have known each other a long time has bred a genuine closeness and trust that blossomed quite acceptably into a romantic relationship. Isn't there?

It is. What about when they were toddlers and young children?
